Feed the chicken, starve the eagle

I was reading an article and the phrase"Feed the Chicken and starve the Eagle" was used to describe the managerial behaviour in managing teams. The article referred to managers spending disproportionate time towards weaker team members than otherwise.

This immediately struck a cord somewhere that as consumers also we fall the same prey. Most consumers look at what is missing in their experience/possession rather tha look at what they enjoy and therefore should have a variety of.

I remember a person who used to be very fond of tea but would order coffee once out of home. On asking why, his answer stumped me - "I don't get good coffee at home". But doesn't he claim to like tea greatly.

Is there something common in human behaviour?

Do we build on our strengths rather than correcting on our weaknesses?

Are we striving to be average at many things than experts at a few?

What happens if we apply Pareto's principle other way round?

Thoughts clouding my mind.....

Interesting.

Are you ready?

Scaling up? How about doing it in a short time? How about when demand is much beyond your plans? How much is much? Let us look at how such enormous challenges have been met in a matter of a few weeks. India was found awefully incpacitated to meet the demand of masks, PPEs and sanitizers. Demand soared by 1000X (and perhaps even more). In a matter of under 8 weeks, we started manufacturing all three in reasonably required quantities. Adjacent skills were deployed. Licences granted at lightening speed. And by 12th week, we had more than enough capacity and stocks. So much that we are exporting all of the requirements to the needy across the world. And costs and prices have gone down by 3X if not more. Can you do a simulation of your business for such a scenario? How quickly can you pivot? It's an amazing case study of entire industry standing up to the challenge. #covidopportunities   #businessexpansion   #pivoting   #businessmaze

377 and more

News on 377 has created not only a huge amount of interest in a large number of people but thankfully has also generated a huge amount of humour. Post Bush and tired of Santa/Banta this is a good relief. Meetings burst into laughter when similarities are made with same gender sex for business situations. Are we finally accepting this socially? At least in some sections of society that is becoming larger day by day.

Changing India - Strides in programme implimentation

"Things take forever to change in India" is a common phrase heard amongst India watchers. Being an Indian, I am tempted to respond that at least India has been trying! However, that is not a good enough response from a management practitioner. Going through the history of independent India, a large number of large scale programmes have been launched. All of them with very noble intentions but have been rather slow (very very slow) in achieving the stated objectives.  There is a change that one observes in the recent past. This article is to show the contrast in the achievement of programmes with very strong lessons for the Business Teams to take home the message that Indians have evolved and continue at a much faster pace like a S curve. I will take 2 examples each from the long past and recent past to demonstrate the change. 1. Indian Elections and voters India jump started the democratic process early in her independent life with first national elections held with...
